Whittier College water polo won a pair of games at home on
October 20. The Poets edged out SCIAC rival University of La
Verne 11-10 in the first game of the day and then beat Fresno
Pacific University 14-12 in game two. The Poets improve their
record to 7-15 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
Against La Verne, Chris Villanueva '09 scored five
goals and assisted on two others. Matt Rogers
'08 scored twice and was credited with four assists.
Manny Sanchez '08 had a pair of goals and an
assist and David Weed '11 finished with a goal and
an assist. Matt Brammer '09 made eleven
saves in goal and had four steals. Will Jackson
'11 scored a goal early on and then came in to play goal
and preserved the lead in a tight fourth quarter.
In game two against Fresno Pacific, Villanueva racked up eleven
points with six goals and five assists. Rogers scored three
times, including a five-meter attempt in the fourth quarter, and
also pitched in with two assists. Sanchez scored two goals
and had five steals on the defensive end. Jackson scored two
goals and Tim Beck '10 finished with a goal and an
assist. Brammer made eleven more saves and helped out the
offense with two assists.
The Poets travel to Pasadena, Calif., to take on the California
Institute of Technology on October 24. The SCIAC match is
scheduled to begin at 4pm.
