Whittier College played a pair of matches over the weekend,
taking on SCIAC rival Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on October 5 and then
Chapman University in non-conference action on October 6. The
Poets were swept in straight games both matches; 30-25, 30-7, 31-29
against Pomona and 30-19, 30-17, 30-23 in the loss to
Chapman.
Shanell McMillen '08 and Cassidy
Lake '08 led the Poet attack with six kills apiece
against Pomona. McMillen also pitched in on defense with
eight digs. Bibi Gonzalez '09 assisted on 13
of Whittier's 25 kills. Jessica Schlegel '08
finished with a match-high 25 digs.
The Sagehens were led by Megan Prior with eleven kills. Erin
Saliba was credited with 32 assists and a team-high 19 digs.
Emily Bockmon and Ruchi Patel had 17 and 16 digs, respectively.
Against Chapman, McMillen was the only Poet with double-digit
kills, as she finished with ten. Gonzalez and Christa
Rainville '08 each handed out 13 assists. Gonzalez
also had eight digs. Schlegel led the team with twelve
digs.
Chapman's Jill Felger had a match-high 17 kills and Nikkie Powers
had twelve. Kathleen Kowalski had 40 assists for the
Panthers. Linda Ly finished with ten digs.
The Poets travel to Texas to take on Trinity in their next match on
October 11. The match is scheduled to begin at 6pm.
