Softball Swept By Cal Lutheran, Poets Have Lost Five Straight

Whittier College saw its losing streak extend to five games after dropping a pair to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals, California Lutheran University in Thousand, Oaks, Calif. on March 31.  The Poets (15-11, 7-7 SCIAC) lost 5-2 in game one and 16-0 in the five-inning nightcap.

In game one, Deena Arenas '08 went 2-for-3 with an RBI.  She also pitched the entire game, allowing four earned runs on nine hits and two walks.  Amanda Brown '09 drove in the only other Poet run.  Erica Ureno '08 finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.

The Poets gave up four runs in the first inning; a deficit they would not overcome.  Arenas' RBI single put Whittier on the scoreboard in the second inning, but the Regals (14-5, 9-3 SCIAC) extended their lead back to four with another run in the third.  Brown brought Ureno around to score in the top of the fourth inning to make the score 5-2, which would eventually be the final score.

In the nightcap, only Mary Pacheco '10 and Amanda Carrasco '10 were able to manage hits, as only four Poets reached base in the game.

The Poets' next games are on the road for their Spring Break trip in Texas.  They begin the trip with a doubleheader against Austin College in Sherman, Texas on April 3.
