Whittier College men's water polo won a pair of games in Orange,
Calif., on September 16. They began the day beating
California State University-Fullerton 16-6, and then won a rematch
with Chapman University 11-10 in game two. The Poets lost to
Chapman 11-9 at the Inland Empire Classic a week earlier.
With the two wins, the Poets improve their record to 3-5.
The Poets were led offensively by Matt Rogers '08
in the win over Fullerton. He scored four goals and had one
assist. Dante Morely-Montes '10 added a hat
trick of his own. Chris Villanueva '09
scored twice and was credited with two assists. Tim
Beck '10 and Will Jackson '11 each scored
two goals and assisted on another. Manny Sanchez
'08 dished out three assists to go along with one
goal. Sean Larsen '10 scored a goal, had two
assists and contributed on defense with four steals. Leading
the defense was goalkeeper Matt Brammer '09 who
made nine saves and had four steals. For the second game in a
row, he factored into the Poet attack with two assists.
Against Chapman, Villanueva provided five goals and one assist to
lead the way for the Poets. Griffen Dolman
'11 pitched in with a career-high three goals and added
one assist. Sanchez had two goals and assisted on two
others. Larsen scored once and was credited with an
assist. Brammer and Jackson split time in goal and combined
for ten saves, seven from Jackson.
The Poets are in action again when they travel to UC-Santa Cruz for
the Slugfest Tournament on September 22 and 23. They open the
tournament against Fordham University at 10:40am on day one.
They play Santa Clara University that afternoon at 4:00pm. On
day two, the play the hosts at 10:40am and then wrap things up at
2:40pm against the University of California-Davis.
