Whittier College volleyball went 0-2 in a pair of SCIAC matches
on September 28 and 29. On Friday, the Poets traveled to
Occidental College where they lost in four games, 30-23, 30-25,
27-30, 30-24. Saturday, Whittier played host to nationally
ranked #9 University of La Verne and lost in straight games, 30-11,
30-16, 30-17. The Poets are now 1-10 overall and 0-5 in
conference play.
Versus Occidental, Shanell McMillen '08 led the
Poets with ten kills, three service aces and 18 digs.
Lenny Recinos '08 finished with six kills and
seven digs. Christa Rainville '08 was
credited with 13 assists. Jennifer Salas '10
pitched in with eleven digs.
The Tigers were led by Kathryn Bockmon with ten kills. Jaime
Nikami handed out 27 assists and had five service aces. Sonia
Huizar had a match-high 23 digs and also had five aces.
Against La Verne, McMillen led the offense again with eleven kills
and pitched in with six digs. Rainville had a team-high
eleven assists Victoria Larios '11 had seven
kills, eight assists, two aces and four digs. Salas led the
Poets with 10 digs.
La Verne got eleven kills from Jodi Lindsay. Emily James was
credited with 28 assists and Rachel Verdoorn had a team-high nine
digs.
The Poets travel to Caltech for their next match on October
2. The SCIAC contest is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm in
Pasadena, Calif.
