Whittier College Men's Water Polo lost 8-5 to NCAA Division III
#4 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in SCIAC action n November 1. The
loss drops the Poets record to 11-13 overall and 2-3 in conference
play.
The Poets fell behind early as Pomona scored the first three goals
of the match. Whittier got on the board at the 4:55 mark of
the second quarter, when Wes Paulson '12 tallied his first goal of
the day to make the score 3-1. It was the only first half
goal for the Poets.
One minute into the second half, Will Jackson '11 brought the Poets
within one goal, but that was as close as they would get.
Pomona extended their lead to three and entered the fourth quarter
with a 7-4 advantage. The teams traded goals in the final
stanza, with Chris Villanueva '09 scoring his second goal of the
game with 6:22 left in regulation. Pomona put on the
finishing touches with a goal in the final minute to take the 8-5
victory.
Jackson finished with a goal and three assists in the loss.
He also pitched in defensively with three steals. Villanueva
was credited with two goals and an assist. Paulson also
tallied a pair of goals. Casey Regehr '12 had seven saves and
two steals in goal.
The Poets take on Division III's top-ranked team in the University
of Redlands on November 5. The game begins in Redlands,
Calif., at 4:00pm.
