WHITTIER, Calif. - Five
players scored in double-figures and the Whittier College men's
basketball team shot 52 percent from the field as the Poets
defeated Cal Lutheran, 80-65, in a Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game Saturday night at the
Graham Athletic Center.
Whittier (11-7, 5-2 SCIAC) was led by senior Michael
Archuletta who scored a team-high 19 points on 8-of-13
shooting.
Freshman guard Kenneth Albritton poured in 15
points on 5-of-6 shooting as he added a game-high four steals and
four assists.
Marcus Gibson, Keegan Hoover
and David Hayashi finished the game with 13, 10
and 12 points each, respectively.
The Poets built a 15-point lead early into the second half but
Cal Lutheran battled back to tie the score at 57 with 7:55 to play.
Over the final eight minutes of the game WC outscored the Kingsmen
23-8 en route to the 15-point win.
Whittier led 39-31 at halftime.
The Poets return to action on Wednesday, February 4, as they
travel to La Verne, Calif., to face SCIAC foe La Verne at 7:30 p.m.
