Whittier, Calif. - The Whittier College women's volleyball team
lost to the University of Redlands in front of a fan base of 175 on
Friday evening at the Graham Athletic Center. This evening
was a special occasion as we honored our three seniors who played
in their final regular season home game. These seniors
included Katie Sharpe, Natalie Barajas and Melissa Johnson who
received recognition for their play during their collegiate careers
here at Whittier College. The Bulldogs completed their season sweep
of the Poets with a convincing three set victory (25-21, 25-17,
25-16). With the win, Redlands also clinched the regular season
SCIAC title notching a 20-4 overall record and a 12-1 mark in SCIAC
play.
Whittier (9-15, 3-10 SCIAC) despite losing Shannon Orlins to a
foot injury early in the first set tallied 29 kills for the match
on 129 attempts, while posting an attacking percentage of .093 with
17 errors.
Aya Nakano led the Poets offensive attack with 12 kills,
while Vanessa Amran had a match-high 24 assists.
Barajas had a team-high 20 digs while Kashima Patridge had two
solo blocks
Redlands finished the evening with 34 kills on 97 attempts with
only 11 errors. The Bulldogs finished with an attacking percentage
of .237 and served up seven aces.
The Poets return to action on Tuesday November 3 as they travel
to Pomona-Pitzer to take on the Sagehens at 7:30 p.m.
