CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Whittier College men's
soccer team concluded their regular season on Sunday afternoon with
a 0-0 tie with Pomona-Pitzer. The Sagehens, who clinched the top
spot in the postseason tournament before the game, earned the SCIAC
championships while the Poets finished second in the conference.
Whittier (9-4-4, 8-2-4 SCIAC) made a remarkable turnaround after
last season. The purple and gold finished 2-12 in the conference
play in 2008; good enough for seventh place. This season WC pitched
five shutouts and is currently on an 11-game unbeaten streak.
Paul Stepler-Camp started in goal for Whittier
and made four saves in 90 minutes of action.
As a team the Poets combined for seven shots, with three on
goal. Kevin Hartsough, Rafa
Serfaty and Edward Baker all put a shot
on goal.
WC earned eight corner kicks for the game to Pomona's one.
The Poets' SCIAC Postseason Tournament semifinal game will be on
Wednesday, November 4, at 7:30 pm.
