Crow is nearly perfect as Poets cruise by Leopards

LA VERNE, Calif. - The Whittier College men's basketball team completed the regular season sweep of Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe University of La Verne as the Poets defeated the Leopards, 70-53, Wednesday night.

The Poets (12-7, 6-2 SCIAC) remain in a two-way tie for second place in the SCIAC as they share an identical conference mark with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. WC hosts the Stags on February 21 in their second game of the regular season series.

Fellow senior Michael Archuletta matched Crow's game-high as he tallied his own 19 points. He also added eight rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.

Whittier led by as many as 15 points in the first half and took a 14-point, 37-23, lead into the intermission.

Senior Jeff McClean scored 10 points and had a game-high five steals on the evening. The University of La Verne (5-14, 1-7 SCIAC) had 15 turnovers; 11 of those were steals by the Poets.

WC built as large as a 24-point second half lead en route to the 17-point win.
