Box Score REDLANDS, Calif. - The University of Redlands
shocked the Whittier College men's basketball team on Saturday
evening as the Poets fell to the Bulldogs, 71-67, in a Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Currier
Gymnasium.
The Poets (12-8, 6-3 SCIAC) remain in the SCIAC playoff picture
as their conference record matches that of Cal Lutheran and
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Pomona-Pitzer now holds a two-game
advantage over Whittier, the Kingsmen and the Stags.
The purple and gold held a 34-30 advantage at the intermission
but trailed by as many as 11 points in the second half before their
comeback came up four points short.
The Bulldogs (7-13, 3-6 SCIAC) were led by the game's high
scorer in Patrick Coffey who scored 27 points on 8-of-17 shooting.
Whittier's top scorer was Marcus Gibson who had
19 points. Michael Archuletta added 14 points in
the loss.
One of the biggest differences in the game was the foul
shooting. Whittier went to the line 14 times and came away with
nine points from the charity stripe while the Bulldogs were
23-of-35 from the foul line.
The Poets return to action on Wednesday, February 11, as they
host the California Institiute of Technology at 7:30 pm at the
Graham Athletics Center.
