Box Score

REDLANDS, Calif. - The University of Redlands shocked the Whittier College men's basketball team on Saturday evening as the Poets fell to the Bulldogs, 71-67, in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Currier Gymnasium.

The Poets (12-8, 6-3 SCIAC) remain in the SCIAC playoff picture as their conference record matches that of Cal Lutheran and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Pomona-Pitzer now holds a two-game advantage over Whittier, the Kingsmen and the Stags.

The purple and gold held a 34-30 advantage at the intermission but trailed by as many as 11 points in the second half before their comeback came up four points short.

The Bulldogs (7-13, 3-6 SCIAC) were led by the game's high scorer in Patrick Coffey who scored 27 points on 8-of-17 shooting.

Whittier's top scorer was Marcus Gibson who had 19 points. Michael Archuletta added 14 points in the loss.

One of the biggest differences in the game was the foul shooting. Whittier went to the line 14 times and came away with nine points from the charity stripe while the Bulldogs were 23-of-35 from the foul line.

The Poets return to action on Wednesday, February 11, as they host the California Institiute of Technology at 7:30 pm at the Graham Athletics Center.
