WHITTIER, Calif. - Vicky
Ovieda hit a one-out solo homerun in the bottom of the
seventh to help the Whittier College softball team earned a split
of its double-header against Chapman University on Saturday
afternoon at Palmer Field.
Ovieda finished the second game 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run
score in the 2-1 victory.
The purple and gold received a 7.0 inning effort from starting
pitcher Heather Dady who scattered five hits and
allowed one run. Dady improved her record to 4-1 on the year.
Kellie Canida, Mary Pacheco
and Brenda Thompson all had multi-hit afternoons.
Thompson had a game-high three hits.
In Game 1 the Poets led through the bottom of the fifth inning
but the Panthers exploded for five runs in the sixth inning en
route to the win.
Chapman scored five runs on four hits which includes a grand
slam by Erin DeRycke. DeRycke went 2-for-4 with three runs scored
and five RBI to lead Chapman in the first game.
Amanda Webster went 7.0 innings, allowed 11
hits, eight runs (eight earned) and struck out one batter in the
loss.
