Poets sweep Cal Lu to earn 20th win

WHITTIER, Calif. - The Whittier College softball team picked up a pair of Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference wins this afternoon as it beat Cal Lutheran University, 8-0 and 4-3, at Palmer Field.

The Poets (20-12, 7-9 SCIAC) were led by Amanda Carrasco who belted two homeruns in the doubleheader. She finished Game 1 3-for-3 with three RBIs and went 1-for-3 in Game 2.

Heather Dady pitched all five innings in the first game as she scattered four hits and struck out one batter to earn her seventh victory.

Amanda Webster came in relief of starting pitcher Nikole Gandara in the second game to even her season record at 8-8. Gandara allowed three runs over 4.2 innings while Webster gave up just one hit in 2.1 innings of work.

The 20 wins marks the third consecutive year that the Poets have reached that plateau and second under current head coach Jen Bridges.

Whittier returns to action tomorrow, April 11, as they face Occidental in a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled for a Noon start.
