WHITTIER, Calif. - The
Whittier College softball team picked up a pair of Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference wins this afternoon
as it beat Cal Lutheran University, 8-0 and 4-3, at Palmer Field.
The Poets (20-12, 7-9 SCIAC) were led by Amanda
Carrasco who belted two homeruns in the doubleheader. She
finished Game 1 3-for-3 with three RBIs and went 1-for-3 in Game 2.
Heather Dady pitched all five innings in the
first game as she scattered four hits and struck out one batter to
earn her seventh victory.
Amanda Webster came in relief of starting
pitcher Nikole Gandara in the second game to even
her season record at 8-8. Gandara allowed three runs over 4.2
innings while Webster gave up just one hit in 2.1 innings of work.
The 20 wins marks the third consecutive year that the Poets have
reached that plateau and second under current head coach
Jen Bridges.
Whittier returns to action tomorrow, April 11, as they face
Occidental in a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled for a
Noon start.
