WHITTIER, Calif. - The
Whittier College baseball team fell to No. 3 Pomona-Pitzer this
afternoon, 10-2, in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference game at Memorial Field.
The Poets (10-19, 4-7 SCIAC) managed only five hits and scored
its two runs in the first and second inning.
The Sagehens (26-3, 13-0 SCIAC) totaled 16 hits and put the game
out of reach with a four run seventh inning. Pomona scored six runs
in the final three innings.
PP scored two runs in the top of the first inning but Whittier
answered with two runs over the next two innings to tie the score
at 2. The Sagehens added a run in each the third and fourth before
it plated four in the seventh.
Reed Tuttle and Lorenzo Lopez
each had two hits on the afternoon while Michael
Benavente had the other WC hit.
Anthony Cappelletti went 0-for-3 which ended
his 16-game hit streak.
Starting pitcher Justin Armijo went six innings
and allowed five runs (three earned) on nine hits.
The Poets continue their series with Pomona tomorrow, April 11,
with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
