THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The Whittier College
volleyball team lost its second straight Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic match on Friday evening, 3-0, to No. 25
Cal Lutheran. The Poets have now dropped six consecutive sets.
Whittier (3-3, 1-2 SCIAC) played the Regals hard all evening as
it took CLU to a 25-21 game in the first set. The purple and gold
totaled nine kills on 36 attempts for an attacking percentage of
.167. Cal Lutheran (7-5, 2-0 SCIAC) had 14 first set kills.
The Poets continued to keep it close with CLU in the second set.
The Regals won 25-19 but not before Whittier forced five errors.
CLU saw its total attacks drop from 40 in the first set to 33 in
the second.
In the final set the Poets shot themselves in the foot with
eight errors. Whittier fell 25-14 and had 11 kills on 32 attempts.
Aya Nakano had a match-high 14 kills and 14
digs. She finished with a very impressive .458 attacking
percentage.
Vanessa Amran totaled 21 of Whittier's 26
assists and had one block solo and one block assist.
The purple and gold return to action, tomorrow, September 26, as
it hosts Claremont-M-S at 2 pm.
