ORANGE, Calif. - The No. 4 Whittier College
men's water polo team opened its season with a pair of wins on
Saturday afternoon at Chapman University. In the first game the
Poets defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference foe La Verne, 14-11, in a non-conference match-up and
turned around to beat Chapman University, 11-9, in the night cap.
Senior transfer Alex Perry led the purple and
gold in the first game with six goals. He added two more in the
second contest.
Another transfer, Uriel Villa, put together a
solid debut for Whittier has he tallied four goals on the
afternoon; three of which came against Chapman in the third
quarter. Villa also led the Poets with a hat tricks worth of
assists against La Verne.
Whittier (2-0) got at least one goal from seven different
players against La Verne as both Jordan Van Norman
and Cameron Lew found the back of the net twice.
Rilesh Desai finished the double-header with a
total of six assists.
Other goal scorers on the afternoon include Chet
Schuster, Brandon Babot, Damon
Chandler and Will Jackson.
The Poets return to action next weekend as they travel to face
Loyola Marymount at 10:30 a.m. They also have an exhibition game
against Pepperdine.
