THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – After a weekend
of action at the Cal Lutheran Fall Classic the Whittier College
volleyball team returned to Thousand Oaks on Tuesday evening where
it dropped a 3-0 decision to the No. 23 Regals at Gilbert
Arena.
Despite the loss, the Poets (5-18, 1-8 SCIAC) finished the
three-game match with a team attacking percentage of .235. WC
combined for 36 kills on 98 attempts with only 13 errors.
Courtney
Dickerson continued her solid play with nine kills
while Alayna
Rigo matched her efforts with nine of her own. Both
Dickerson and Rigo had a mere three errors on 24 and 23 attempts,
each, respectively.
Cal Lutheran (20-3, 9-0 SCIAC) showed why it's ranked nationally
as it finished with a .333 attacking percentage. The Regals had two
players record double-digit kills and finished with just nine
errors on 105 attempts.
Rigo added to her stat line with 11 digs and a team-high two
aces and Alyssa
Acosta dug-out 14 CLU attacking attempts.
As a team the Poets posted five aces with Shannon
Orlins, Maria
Montero and Ashley
Terich joining Rigo with an ace apiece.
Whittier had assists on all 36 of its kills as Terich lead the
way with 20. Vanessa
Amran added 13 in the loss.
The Poets lost by no more than seven points in all three games.
Cal Lutheran erased an early 7-2 deficit to win the first game
25-18; it outlasted Whittier 25-21 in the second and held off the
purple and gold 25-18 in the final game of the evening.
Whittier will have a quick turnaround as it travels to
Claremont, Calif., to face Pomona-Pitzer at 7:30 pm on Thursday
evening.
