CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whittier College
men's soccer team was shocked on Saturday morning after
Pomona-Pitzer scored in the first half and held off the purple and
gold for the 1-0 win in conference action.
The loss is the second straight for the Poets (6-4-1, 4-2-1
SCIAC) who hadn't dropped back-to-back games all season.
Whittier outshot last season's regular season champs,
13-6, but only managed one shot on goal.
Francis Maxwell and Thomas
Barber led the Poets with three shots apiece but it was
Brendan McWalters who tallied the only shot on
target.
Adolfo Santos was held with a shot while
Srdan Jovanovic got off two.
The lone goal of the contest came at 37:08 on a Franco Simbana
to Danny Nasry scoring strike.
The Poets had six corner kicks, four of which came in the first
45 minutes, while Pomona-Pitzer had just three.
David Diaz made four saves in 90 minutes of
action in net.
Whittier will look to right the ship on Wednesday evening as it
hosts Claremont-M-S at 7 pm.
