WHITTIER, Calif. – The Poets continued
their strong play on Saturday evening but couldn't get over
the hump as Chapman University handed Whittier its fifth straight
3-0 loss. The Panthers won 25-15, 25-20, 25-20.
Shannon Orlins played a very strong match for
the purple and gold at the net as she recorded seven block assists.
As a team the Poets clocked 11.0 blocks. Orlins also led the Poets
offensively with seven kills on 15 attempts and a .333 attacking
percentage.
Vanesssa Amran continued her strong play with a
team-high 20 assists. She added three kills, five digs, one service
ace and four block assists.
Adiana Moore and Alyssa Acosta
each had service aces in the loss.
Seven players recorded at least one kill for Whittier.
Alayna Rigo had six, Courtney Dickerson chipped in with four and Nicole Boyer, Lindsey Kish and Lauren Whiteman all had three. Kish led the team with 18
digs.
As a team the Poets tallied a .204 attacking percentage and had
only nine errors on 98 total attacks. Whittier put away 13 kills in
the third set and had 10 in the second.
The Poets will play host to a pair of SCIAC rivals next week.
The first will be Pomona-Pitzer on Tuesday, September 28, at 7:30
pm.
