THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Whittier College women's volleyball team took to the road as they took part in Day 2 of the Posada Royale Invitational completing the invite with a record of 1-3 falling to Rhodes and then coming from behind to beat Mary Washington in five sets.  

Whittier found themselves in familiar territory as they yet again played another five set match now running their record in five set matches to 2-9. 

Game 1 (Rhodes – L 25-13, 20-25, 18-25, 12-25)

In game one, Whittier jumped out quickly to claim the first set, thanks to Alessandra Rios and her 23 assists, while Adriana Moore controlled the back row collecting a game high 19 digs.

After jumping out to an early lead, Whittier then gave up the next three games and saw their big three in Alayna Rigo, Alyssa Sialaris, and Lauren Whiteman collect a combined 15 kills. 

Up front, Courtney Delano also chipped in with five kills but this kind of attack from the Poets was not enough to get the victory as they fell in four games.         

Game 2 (Mary Washington – W 17-25, 14-25, 25-17, 25-18, 15-9)

Mary Washington in game two jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but Whittier found a way to crawl back into the match and force a deciding game five, while collecting their eighth win on the season. 

Rios led the Poets as she collected her second triple double of the season tallying 20 assists, 10 kills and 10 digs.  From the outside, Rigo had another double-double as she totaled 14 kills and 10 digs, while Moore continued to lead the back row of defensive specialists with 20 digs.

Off the bench, Maria Montero came in to notch 16 assists, and Sialaris and Whiteman chipped in with six and seven kills, each, respectively.

Whittier looks to get back to SCIAC form as they take on the Bulldogs of the University of Redlands, Tuesday, October 18, beginning at 7:30pm.
