RIVERSIDE, Calif. –The Whittier College women's basketball team dropped their second straight SCIAC game this week as their second half comeback fell short as they fell 60-45 to the Bulldogs of the University of Redlands.

Whittier now drops to 3-10, 0-2 SCIAC, while Redlands improves to 8-5, 2-0 SCIAC.

Freshman Dannika Navales-Lugtu and Emma Teyechea paced the Poets with 11 and 10 points, each respectively, but the size of the Bulldogs in the paint was too much for the Poets to handle and was an obstacle early in the first half that was difficult to overcome.  In the paint, Whittier was outscored 26-18 and was outrebounded by 16.

Despite trailing 8-0 early and then 28-15 at the break, Whittier did come back and got within ten late in the second half behind an 8-0 run themselves as Tanisha White poured in a three pointer to go along with a Danielle Quinones lay in, and a Bianca Mitchell jumpshot but the 10 point deficit was too much to overcome late as Redlands went on to claim the 16 point victory.

Whittier continues to seek their first SCIAC victory and look to obtain it as they travel to the California Institute of Technology to take on the Beavers on Thursday, January 12 beginning at 7:30pm.
