CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whittier College baseball team was unable to complete their series with the Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer as rain halted game two forcing the Poets to return tomorrow to finish at 1pm.

After losing game one 11-6, Whittier was in the driver's seat to claim their second win on the season and their first SCIAC victory in Game 2 but because of inclement weather the Purple & Gold will have to wait until tomorrow to see the outcome.

Whittier now drops to 1-4, 0-2 SCIAC, while Pomona-Pitzer moves to 2-0-1.

Game 1 (L, 11-6)

The Sagehens jumped out early to a 6-0 lead forcing the Poets starting pitcher Austin Straus to leave after two after he gave up six runs on five hits tagging him with his second loss of the season.

Whittier answered right back in the 4th and 5th after Austin Nogueira shut out the Sagehens going three innings giving up one hit.

In the 4th Andrew Vallejo singled up the middle and then advanced due to a wild pitch before Cory Goodchild moved him over with a single through the right side.  Cody Martinez then came up and grounded into a double play, driving in Vallejo adding the Poets first run of the contest.

The Poets had two outs in the top of the 5th but after two walks a Stephen Zavala single, and an error by the Sagehens the Poets were able to add two more runs chipping the Pomona lead to four.

After a scoreless 7th, Pomona added another two runs to extend their lead to 11-3 but a Poet comeback was mounted behind Bogart who singled to the shortstop and then stole second moving into scoring position.  Bogart then advanced due to a passed ball and after a Zavala single that drove in Bogart, Vallejo then singled up the middle driving in Alex Mitchell.  After a walk to Goodchild moving Vallejo into scoring position Martinez came to bat and struck out stopping the Poet run helping Pomona preserve their five run victory.

Game 2 (7-3, Halted in the fifth)

Game two was halted in the fifth after the Poets jumped out to a 7-3 lead and the full game recap and boxscore will be available tomorrow, February 12 immediately following the game that is taking place at Pomona-Pitzer beginning at 1pm.
