WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College
softball team was unable to find their offense this afternoon as
they lost their twin bill 19-2 and 8-0 to the hands of the Bulldogs
of the University of Redlands.
Whittier now drops to 2-4, 0-4 SCIAC, while Redlands improves to
4-4, 4-0 SCIAC.
Game 1 (L, 19-2)
Redlands came out with their offense in game one totaling four
homeruns including two grand slams from Martinez and Lievanos, and
back to back to back jacks in the top of the 3rd to
extend a lead to 19-0.
The Purple & Gold rallied in the 2nd and
3rd innings to tack on runs behind a single from
Nikki
Mendoza that drove in Samantha
Mellano , while Mellano walked in a run in the next
inning. But this is all the offense they would muster as
Uphold pitched two innings giving up 4 hits and one run to secure
the victory.
Courtney Delano who started for the Poets went
1.1 innings giving up three hits and nine runs to go with seven
walks. Her record now drops to 2-2 on the season.
Game 2 (L, 8-0)
Game 2 started off differently as it turned into a pitcher's
duel in the early stages of the game until Redlands added two runs
in the third. They then came back in the next inning and put
up a five spot and then added an insurance run in the
5th.
Jessica
Rosnack pitched her best game of the season this
afternoon going 5.0 innings giving up 4 hits and 8 runs, all
unearned to go with two strikeouts.
On the other side Ruelas, a crafty lefty was able to hold the
Poets scoreless over 5.0 innings surrendering just two
hits.
Courtney
Grana and Janae
Townsend both received the two hits on the day
finishing 1-2.
The Poets still search for their first SCIAC victory and will
get the entire week off to begin preparing for yet again another
SCIAC match-up as they travel to Claremont, Calif. to take on the
Athena's of Claremont-M-S on Saturday, February 25 beginning at
12pm & 2pm.
