Box Score WHITTIER, Calif. - The Whittier College men's soccer team cruised to the lopsided 5-0 victory Saturday evening over Caltech as they moved into 2nd Place in the SCIAC standings with a 9-5-1, 8-3-1 SCIAC record.
Whittier and Caltech went back and forth in the early minutes of the contest before WC would go out in front with a goal from Gregorio Giorgi (Bologna, Italy) fed by Dylan Fortin (San Diego, Calif.) in the 19th minute.
It wouldn't be till the 39th minute when the Poets would tally their second goal of the game coming from Francis Maxwell (Clydebank, Scotland) his 10th goal of the season which he connected on inside of the box after it was put in by Pablo Gomez (Cardiff by the Sea).
In the second half, Whittier would continue where they left off finding the back of the goal five minutes in from Tyler Crough (Fresno, Calif.) who headed in a ball, which came from a headed attempt from Ian Cromwell (Pleasanton, Calif.).
In the final five minutes of the game, Whittier would tally their final two goals in the 86th and 89th minutes. The first came from a strike from Gary Kelman (Aberdeen, Scotland) from just outside the box coming from Crough before Luis Amaya (Anaheim, Calif.) would add his first goal of his career minutes later connecting on a corner kick, which got through the box from Matthew Evans (Bury St. Edmunds, England).
Whittier totaled 33 shots on the evening with five coming from Maxwell and four from Giorgi.
The Poets have a short turn around as they travel to La Verne Monday, October 21 to take on the Leopards beginning at 7:00pm.
