LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Whittier College volleyball team dropped their third straight contest in straight sets Saturday afternoon as they fell 25-17, 25-18, 25-22 to Occidental College. 

The previous time these two teams met the match went the distance with the Poets earning the victory but this time around the Poets hit .134 going down early in the first set and couldn't rebound dropping to 13-11, 4-7 SCIAC.

Whittier held a slight lead in the second 12-9 but after a 4-1 run the Tigers evened the set up at 14 before taking the lead and never looking back as they went on to win the set 25-18 before edging out the Purple & Gold in set three 25-22. 

Alayna Rigo (Chino Hills, Calif.) was held to single digits as she recorded nine kills on 35 attempts but managed to gather a team high 18 digs in the back row, while Casie Lowden (Glendora, Calif.) registered eight kills.

Whittier returns home Tuesday, October 22 when they host Claremont-M-S- beginning at 7:30pm.
