WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College volleyball team dropped a combine 25 points in three sets as they swept the Beavers of Caltech Friday night 25-4, 25-4, 25-17 to move to 11-7, 4-3 SCIAC.
It was all Whittier as they rolled to the straight sets victory dominating both offensively and defensively. They hit .607 and then .412 in the first two sets totaling 25 kills on just one error.
Despite not having a single player hit double digits in kills the Poets still had Alayna Rigo (Chino Hills, Calif.) finish with nine kills on 22 attempts for a .318 hitting percentage.
Every player on the roster received playing time with Malia Valdivieso (Chula Vista, Calif.), Courtney DeLano (Riverside, Calif.), Lindsey Kish (Costa Mesa, Calif.), and Lauren Whiteman (Mission Viejo, Calif.) all totaling over five kills.
In the back row the Poets saw Alyssa Acosta (Whittier, Calif.) total eight digs, while Alessandra Rios (La Habra, Calif.) returned to form finishing with 22 assists in her first game back.
For Caltech, Catherin Jamshidi finished with a team high seven kills, while Rebekah Kitto totaled four.
Whittier returns to the court next weekend, Saturday, October 12 when they travel to Pomona-Pitzer to take on the Sagehens at 11:00am before taking on Kenyon at Pomona beginning at 3:30pm.
