LANCASTER, Calif. – The Whittier College men's basketball team made up their game on the road against West Coast Baptist Tuesday evening and came away with a 90-78 victory thanks to five players reaching double figures.
Whittier returns back to .500 on the season at 2-2 with their final non-conference game occurring tomorrow, December 5 against St. Katherine's at 5:30pm prior to the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule commencing on Saturday, December 7 on the road against Redlands beginning at 5:00pm.
The Poets, led by Nick Demusis (Mililani, HI) who had a game high 23 points on 10-14 shooting held a slight 45-40 advantage at the break before outscoring the Eagles 45-38 in the second half en route to the road win and their second straight victory.
The Purple & Gold shot 51% from the field and 33% from behind the three point line getting big scoring efforts from sophomore Ben Maynard (La Canada, Calif.) who tossed in a career high 18 points on 8-12 shooting, Chris Barnes-Williams (Salt Lake City, UT) (14 Points), and Michael Alvarez (Long Beach, Calif.) (11 Points). Sophomore Eric Jennings (Fontana, Calif.) once again put together an incredible stat line finishing with 12 points, seven boards, four assists, and three steals, while point guard David Richardson (Los Angeles, Calif.) despite only having three points had seven rebounds, six assists, and two steals.
On the Eagles side, four players had double digit scoring efforts with Ryan Molencupp and Travis Burkett tossing in 19 points apiece with Mark Rasmussen totaling 16 points and six boards.
