REDLANDS, Calif. – The Whittier College women's basketball team dropped their sixth straight contest Saturday evening as they fell 90-65 to the University of Redlands.

Whittier kept the game close in the first four minutes of play sparked by a three pointer from Dannika Navales-Lugtu (San Francisco, Calif.) and a couple of jumpers from Danielle Hays (San Diego, Calif.) and Erica Houston (Stockton, Calif.).  Leading 11-9, Redlands (5-2, 3-0 SCIAC) would open the game up with an ensuing 10-0 run, which ultimately led to a 50-28 advantage for the Bulldogs at the half after they shot 53% from the field and 67% from downtown.

In the second, Redlands would run their lead to as many as 34 points.  Whittier would clip that to 25 with 3:37 to play after they rallied to add eight unanswered with five coming from freshman Priscilla Rodriguez (East Los Angeles, Calif.) but it wouldn't be enough as UR would hold the Poets to just three points in the final minutes to secure the victory.

Whittier held the advantage with bench points 31-29 in large part to Rodriguez and Carly Buechler (Greenwood Village, CO) who added 11 and 10 points, each respectively.  Hays would be the only other Poet to record double digits in scoring finishing with a team high 12 points on 4-8 shooting to go with four rebounds.

For Redlands, Brittany Oster finished with a game high 24 points, which came on an 11-15 effort accompanied with 10 boards.  She was joined by Colleen Goeser who finished with 17 points and five assists. 

Whittier continues to seek their first victory of the 2013-14 season and hopes to get into the win column as they travel to their crosstown rival Biola University, this Tuesday, December 10 beginning at 7:30pm.
