CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whittier College men's soccer team avenged their 2012 SCIAC Championship game loss to Claremont-M-S Monday evening as they shutout the Stags 2-0 handing them their first SCIAC loss.

In a tough second half, the Poets continued to play up tempo soccer playing aggressively on offense and managed to hold the advantage on shots at 12-7, with one of them being a shot from senior midfielder Francis Maxwell (Hydebark, Glasgow) who found the back of the net in the 69th minute from George Montalvo (Whittier, Calif.) which put the Poets in front 2-0 helping them come away with the win.
In goal, freshman Jorge Rivas (Lake Forest, Calif.) collected his fifth win of the season and his second shutout turning away all four shots he faced.
