ORANGE, Calif. – The Whittier College men's soccer team dropped their second straight game Saturday afternoon as they fell 3-1 to the Panthers of Chapman University as their SCIAC Post Season Tournament chances begin slipping away.
This marks the second straight game they have fallen by the score of 3-1 as they drop to 6-6-2, 4-6-2 SCIAC. With the win the Panthers move to 7-5-1, 7-4-1 SCIAC and are now in third place in the SCIAC Standings.
Marco Saglimbeni proved lethal once again as he completed the hat trick to provide the Panthers with the victory. The previous time these two programs met CU pulled off the 3-2 victory in double overtime with Saglimbeni scoring two goals, which included the game winner.
Saglimbeni would add the first goal of the game at the 10 minute mark but the Poets would tie it up fifteen minutes later from Dylan Fortin (San Diego, Calif.) who scored off an assist from Denzel Hartshorn (Grand Junction, CO).
This would be the only goal allowed by the Panthers as they would add their second right before the break and then an insurance goal in the 85th minute that put the game out of reach.
Chapman barely outshot the Poets 11-7 and held a slight advantage on corner kicks 5-3. Jorge Rivas (Lake Forest, Calif.) collected a mere one save and Fortin would lead the offensive unit with three shots.
Whittier returns to the field this Wednesday, October 22 when they host La Verne at 7:00pm.
