PASADENA, Calif. – The Whittier College volleyball team bounced back after a four set loss to Chapman University Friday to sweep the Beavers of Caltech Saturday evening 25-18, 25-11, 25-10.

Despite being knocked out of SCIAC Post Season Tournament contention, the Poets look to end their 2014 season on a high note as they look to stun the University of La Verne at home this Tuesday night, October 28 beginning at 7:30pm on Senior Night.

Whittier hit .250 as a team led by Rebecca Slattery (Los Altos, Calif.) and Malia Valdivieso (Chula Vista, Calif.) who each recorded nine kills.  Jasmine Tong (Fullerton, Calif.) finished with 18 assists, while Vanessa Rodriguez (Wildumar, Calif.) had eight digs in the back row.

Following a tight first set 25-18, the Poets went on to hit .300 in the second and .476 in the third en route to the sweep.  In the second set the Poets jumped out in front 6-0 but would see the Beavers rally to pull within three 11-8, but that's as close as they would get as WC would rally to win 14 of the next 17 points.

They would put together another run in the third 7-0 to go in front 16-6 and would put the finishing touches on the match as they would add eight in a row to wrap up the third.      

With the win the Poets improve to 8-15, 6-8 SCIAC, while Caltech drops to 1-19 (0-13 SCIAC).
