WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College men's water polo team extended their winning streak to four games Saturday as they held off the Kingsmen of Cal Lutheran University 13-11 to improve to 15-12, 4-0 SCIAC.
Whittier continues to control home pool advantage as they move their home record to 6-2 on the season.
Freshman Massimiliano Mirarchi (Rome, Italy) led the Poets offensive unit in the first quarter adding four goals to help the Purple & Gold take a one goal advantage 5-4.
In the second both programs added two goals apiece moving the score to 7-6 at the break. In the third Whittier earned some breathing room scoring three unanswered from Goran Mataic (Split, Croatia), Mirarchi, and Wedge Molthen (Buena Park, Calif.) that put the Poets up 10-6.
Then in the fourth, the Kingsmen would put together a rally tallying five goals frantically attempting to come back but three strikes from Mataic, Marko Zuric (Split, Croatia) and Mirarchi would help WC preserve the two goal victory.
Austin Ringheim (Los Alamitos, Calif.) would add a goal in the game and Zuric would add two.
Whittier looks to keep their streak alive as they host Claremont-M-S in a big SCIAC Showdown this Wednesday, November 5 beginning at 7:00pm on Senior Night.
