CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whittier College softball team was held scoreless Sunday as they dropped a 1-0 and 6-0 decision to Claremont-M-S dropping to 19-9, 9-7 SCIAC.
Game 1 (L, 1-0)
A battle of pitchers took place in game one with Hayley Schultz emerging victorious going 7.0 innings giving up just three hits to go with five strikeouts. Courtney DeLano was on the opposite end picking up her sixth loss of the season after she went 6.0 innings giving a run on six hits.
The lone run came in the bottom of the second from Janelle Shiozaki who doubled in Carlene Roberts who had reached earlier in the inning due to a dropped third strike on Samantha Mellano.
Mellano, Mercedez Cundiff and DeLano all picked up hits on the afternoon, while Shiozaki was 2-3 with a run scored for the Athena's.
Game 2 (L, 6-0)
In the second game of the doubleheader freshman Samantha Blum got the start going 4.0 innings giving up three earned runs on six hits. CMS got on the board with a run in the second and then added four in the third before adding an insurance run in the fourth with a solo shot from Alexa Heydenbark.
Whittier collected four hits on the afternoon coming from Alexandra Flores, Cundiff, Jordan Learn, and Sarah Miller.
Kaylilani Minami picked up her sixth win on the season going a complete game.
