WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College baseball team opened up a three game series with Caltech Friday as they rolled to the 17-0 victory in just seven innings earning their sixth win on the season.
The Poets found their bats at Memorial Field collecting 16 hits, which included four extra base knocks.
Junior Nick Garcia (Anaheim, Calif.) had a no hitter going into the fourth inning and surrendered just two hits, while striking out nine in his second win on the season.
Whittier struck for four runs in the first inning coming on five hits sparked by a leadoff double by Jonathan Whipple (Sandy, UT). They got another five in the third capitalizing on three Beaver errors and would add another eight over the final three innings, which included a three run shot by Chris Sekiguchi (Aiea, HI), his first of his career that put the game out of reach.
Whipple finished 3-4 on the day with a run scored and three runs batted in. Cody Martinez (Whittier, Calif.) was 3-3 with two runs scored and a run scored and Graham Pimm (Clayton, Calif.) was 2-3.
Whittier wraps up the series tomorrow, Saturday, April 11 in Pasadena, Calif. with game times set for 11:00am and 2:30pm.
