FULLERTON, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Basketball team faced a tough test Monday evening as they took on Division I Cal State Fullerton at Titan Gymnasium.
The Titans height proved a tall task for the Purple & Gold as they would roll to the lopsided 97-49 victory.
Despite their third loss in a row Whittier played physical for 40:00 minutes and had a few bright spots, including junior Emily Underwood (Nicholasville, KY) who was the lone Poet in double figures posting 11 points on 3-of-9 shooting to go with four boards.
Freshman Cali Cubel (Oceanside, Calif.) put on a show as well and despite an off night shooting, was still able to register nine points and four rebounds.
Amia Thrash (Eastvale, Calif.) was big off the bench for the Poets who played 19 minutes, while adding nine points and five boards. Carly Buechler (Greenwood Village, CO) was deadly from deep adding two triples on the night as she finished with eight points and despite not having any points, freshman Jazmyn Sudbrook-Johnson (Fremont, Calif.) would add four rebounds and two assists in 25 minutes of action.
The Poets were outrebounded on the evening 58-38 and turned the ball over 22 times, which led to 22 Titan points. Whittier was outscored in the paint 40-18, while Cal State Fullerton added 23 second chance points.
Whittier looks for their first win on the season as they host the California Institute of Technology this Saturday, December 3 beginning at 5:00pm.
