Poets shutout in SCIAC Opener 7-0 to Redlands

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Whittier College baseball team was shutout in their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opener Friday afternoon as they were blanked 7-0 to the University of Redlands.

Whittier remains winless on the season as they drop to 0-4, 0-1 SCIAC, while Redlands moves back to .500 at 3-3, 1-0 SCIAC.

Matthew Macey (Oceanside, Calif.) got the start in game one and picked up his first loss on the season going 5.2 strong innings giving up just two runs on six hits, with one of the runs coming on a homerun in the bottom half of the fifth.  But it was the UR ace Felix Minjarez that gave the Purple & Gold all they could handle as he threw an 8.0 inning shutout giving up a mere three hits picking up his second win on the season.

Dylan DeBrouwer (Manteca, Calif.), Jake Raynaud (Los Gatos, Calif.), and Brandon Mulrooney (Placentia, Calif.) all registered hits on the afternoon. 

Whittier returns home tomorrow, Saturday, February 20 when they host the Bulldogs with a doubleheader with first pitches slated for 11:00am and 2:30pm.
