WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College baseball team remains winless on the year as they dropped to 0-6, 0-3 SCIAC following a doubleheader loss 4-1 and 12-2 to the University of Redlands Saturday.

Over the past three games, the Purple & Gold have been outscored 23-3.

Game 1 (L, 4-1)

Nick Garcia (Anaheim, Calif.) got the start in game one of the doubleheader going a complete game giving up three earned runs on 10 hits, being tagged with his third loss on the season.

Mark Tumlins doubled in Christopher that put the Bulldogs on top 1-0 in the top half of the first.  Whittier then put together a strong bottom half of the frame though with three hits.  Tim Turpen (Chino Hills, Calif.) singled up the middle, which was then followed by a Matthew Macey (Oceanside, Calif.) single to right.  Jake Raynaud (Los Gatos, Calif.) then singled through the left side, which plated the lone Poet run on the day.

After four scoreless innings soon after, Redlands would strike again putting up a three spot in the top half of the sixth with Tumlins homering to left and back to back singles from Aaron Singh and Mitch Samson.

This proved to be enough as Whittier would find it difficult to put together a comeback against the trio of Michael Collins, John Keane, and John White from the UR rotation.

Turpen and Raynaud led the Poets with two hits apiece.  Raynaud had a run batted in and Turpen scored the only Poet run.

Game 2 (L, 12-2)

In the second game Whittier collected eight hits and added a run in the first and second innings but couldn't overcome an early deficit of 9-2 after the first three innings.

Whittier's first run came off the bat of Brandon Mulrooney (Placentia, Calif.) who plated Tanner Marcoe (Northridge, Calif.) who led off the inning with a walk.  In the second WC put together a rally but could only bring across a run.  Max Morohashi (Encino, Calif.) doubled to center field.  Max Bradshaw (Salt Lake City, UT) singled to right, which moved Morohashi to third and Andrew Lamar (Alta Loma, Calif.) would lay down a sacrifice bunt that brought in the second run of the game for the Purple & Gold.

Alex Baez (Chino Hills, Calif.) picked up the loss going just 2.0 innings giving up five earned runs on seven hits.

Mike San Angelo (Downey, Calif.) and Morohashi finished the game 2-3 with Raynaud going 2-4.

These would be the lone Poet runs of the game as Whittier would be held scoreless over the next six innings.

Whittier returns to their non-conference schedule Thursday, February 25 when they host Bates beginning at 2:30pm.
