WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Baseball team was forced to play catch-up Friday afternoon right from the opening pitch as freshman Tim Turpen (Chino Hills, Calif.) faced a tough Claremont-M-S line-up.
The Poets couldn't overcome an early 5-0 deficit after the first inning as they fell 13-1 after seven innings.
Turpen lasted 0.2 innings giving up five runs on five hits.
For the Stags, Sam Baughman went a complete game and had a no hitter into the fourth until Dylan DeBrouwer (Manteca, Calif.) broke it up with a single down the right field line eventually scoring after a Jake Raynaud (Los Gatos, Calif.) double to left center.
But that would be the lone run scored against Baughman as he stranded one hit over the next three innings.
Whittier wraps up the three game series with CMS tomorrow, Saturday, April 23 with first pitches slated for 11:00am and 2:30pm.
