LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Whittier College Baseball team looked to bounce back Sunday after dropping their doubleheader Saturday to La Verne and Chapman pushing No. 7 Occidental to the edge but giving up a run in the ninth to fall 2-1 at Anderson Field.

Whittier looked to throw a wrench into the mix Sunday trying to beat Occidental keeping them from clinching the SCIAC Regular Season Championship but couldn't get any offense going down the stretch.

Jake Raynaud (Los Gatos, Calif.) kept his hitting streak alive and kept his quest to break the regular season hits record intact as he singled in Brandon Mulrooney (Placentia, Calif.) in the fourth.

Devon DeRaad though tied things up in the bottom half of the frame as he hit a solo shot to dead center.

The game remained tight over the next four innings until Oxy managed ot bring across the game winner in the ninth.

Reid Gibbs and Derek Sun both walked that got things started.  Graham Pimm then singled to third base on a bunt and Brady Fuller would single in Gibbs that got Oxy one step closer to clinching home field advantage and a share of the SCIAC Regular Season Championship.

Matthew Macey (Oceanside, Calif.) got the start and threw eight strong innings giving up two runs on eight hits, while striking out six.

Whittier rounds out their regular season this Tuesday, May 3 as they travel to take on Caltech beginning at 3:00pm.
