PASADENA, Calif. – The Whittier College Baseball Team rounded out their 2016 schedule Tuesday afternoon rolling past Caltech 8-3 in the final round robin game taking the season series 4-0 over the Beavers.
Whittier finishes the season 15-24, 12-16 SCIAC and finishes 6th in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Standings (SCIAC) Standings.
Nick Garcia (Anaheim, Calif.) went out with a bang picking up his 17th win of his career going 8.0 innings giving up two runs on 10 hits, while striking out eight that moves him over the 200 mark for career strikeouts with 201.
The Purple & Gold got on top with two runs in the second with Jake Raynaud (Los Gatos, Calif.) singling to left and coming in after a Tanner Marcoe (Northridge, Calif.) double and wild pitch.
Max Bradshaw (Salt Lake City, UT) then came up and flew out to right field for a sacrifice fly and the Poets didn't look back adding another two in the fourth and then four in the sixth that put the game out of reach.
Raynaud singled to left center that led off the fourth and moved up after a Marcoe sacrifice bunt. Bradshaw then reached on a throwing error by the shortstop and Raynaud eventually came around to score after Andrew Fierro (Riverside, Calif.) reached on a fielder's choice.
Andrew Lamar (Alta Loma, Calif.) capped off the scoring with a double to right center.
A four spot did in the Beavers in the sixth. Marcoe and Bradshaw led off the frame with a single and double. Fierro drove in one with a single to left and Dylan DeBrouwer (Manteca, Calif.) andMax Morohashi (Encino, Calif.) went one-two on doubles that moved the score to 8-1.
Caltech got a run late in the ninth but it wouldn't be enough as Tim Turpen (Chino Hills, Calif.) shut the door.
Raynaud and Marcoe each finished 2-4 with two runs scored. Bradshaw was 2-4 with a run scored and two runs batted in and Lamar was 2-4 with a run scored and RBI.
