LA VERNE, Calif. – The Whittier College Softball team exited the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Post Season Tournament Saturday losing 5-1 to the University of La Verne.
After a split on day one of the Tournament, the Purple & Gold struggled to find their offense for the second time against the Leos.
With the loss the Poets end their 2016 campaign 21-22, 12-16 SCIAC and drop to 0-6 against the Leopards in head to head match-ups.
It was a tight game through five innings. The first three were scoreless and then in the fourth ULV struck for two off the bat of Katy Kibbe who homered to left.
Marialena Ahern (Fremont, Calif.) continued where she left off from yesterday nailing a double down the right field line that plated Kacey Whitney (Cypress, Calif.) the very next inning cutting the deficit to one.
But that would be the only run generated by Whittier as ULV would add a run in the bottom half of the fifth and then another two in the sixth that put the game out of reach.
Samantha Blum (San Jose, Calif.) threw 4.1 innings strong giving up three runs, with one being earned as she drops to 14-10.
Ahern finished 3-4 with an RBI and Kaitlyn Garza (Chino, Calif.), Megan Troutman (Covina, Calif.), and Ally Fonseca (Pico Rivera, Calif.) would each collect hits on the afternoon.
