PASADENA, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's Soccer team got back on track Wednesday afternoon as they edged Caltech 2-0 snapping their four-game losing skid.
The two goals also end the scoring drought after the Purple & Gold were shutout in their past four contests. They now move to 3-7, 2-6 SCIAC.
Both goals came in the first half and that was enough for the Poets to pull off the shutout. Connor Tait-Mole (Livermore, Calif.) came up with the first goal in the 34th minute as he got on the end of a long ball over the back line and touched his second of the season past Beaver keeper J.D. Feist.
Freshman Noah Gibson (Santa Fe, NM) added the insurance goal and his first connection of his collegiate career six minutes later in the 40th minute. He took a pass from the opposite side from Devin O'Donnell with a chest and volley from eight yards out and put it away for the second goal of the contest.
Jorge Rivas (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) picked up his second shutout on the season as he recorded two saves in the victory.
Whittier outshot Caltech 20-5 and held an advantage on corner kicks 7-4. Rudy Cessna (Anaheim, Calif.) took four shots with three being on goal, while Tait-Mole and James Suri (Lake Forest, Calif.) finished with three shots a piece.
Whittier has the weekend off before resuming play next Wednesday, October 5 when they host Redlands beginning at 7:00pm.
