WHITTIER, Calif. – Playing reserves a majority of the game Saturday morning, the Whittier College Men's Water Polo team was able to roll the Beavers of the California Institute of Technology 17-12 at the Lillian Slade Aquatic Center.

Whittier improves to 11-9 and remains perfect in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play at 7-0 and have now won 10 of their last 12.

The Purple & Gold found themselves leading 3-2 after the first quarter and then 9-7 at the break.  But a 4-1 scoring effort in the 3rd quarter would put the game out of reach.

Both teams took 32 shots for the game, while Whittier was 1-4 on power-play opportunities.  Andrew Wettstead (Fresno, Calif.) played all 32:00 in goal and picked up another win on the season finishing with 12 saves and four steals.

Justin Contreras (Hacienda Heights, Calif.) had a game totaling six goals on eight shots with a couple steals.  Marc-Andre Roy (Montreal, Canada), William DePrez (Upland, Calif.) and Chad Portugal (La Habra Heights, Calif.) each had two.

Whittier returns to the pool next Thursday, October 19 as they travel to take on Claremont-M-S beginning at 7:00pm.
