WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's Soccer team proved a tough test for Occidental College Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.

The last time these two teams met the Poets fell 4-1 but this time around the Purple & Gold battled only to fall on the eventual game winner, which came in the 12th minute.

One goal has been the difference over the past two games as Whittier was coming off a shutout 1-0 win over Pomona-Pitzer.  They now drop to 3-7, 3-6 SCIAC.

Matthew Teplitz was the lone goal scorer for the game as he received a ball out on the wing, which he controlled up the near side only to bend a shot far post past a diving William Allgeier (Brea, Calif.).

From that point the Poets were playing catch-up but they couldn't get anything on frame as they would fall 1-0.  Both teams finished with nine shots, with Whittier holding the advantage on corner kicks 7-3.  Allgeier finished with one save playing all 90:00.

Connor Tait-Mole (Livermore, Calif.) and Jacob Conlon (Placentia, Calif.) led the offense each finishing with two shots.

Whittier remains at home this Saturday, October 14 as they host Chapman University beginning at 7:00pm.
