ORANGE, Calif. – Freshman Hans Zdolsek (Linkoping, Sweden) put together a strong game with five goals an assist and four steals Saturday as the Whittier College Men's Water polo team put away Chapman University 12-9 at the Allred Aquatics Center.
The Purple & Gold followed up their loss to Redlands earlier in the week with a dominating performance over the Panthers as they improve to 15-11, 11-2 SCIAC.
They also hold strong onto 2nd Place within the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Standings.
Zdolsek got the scoring started for the game but was followed by a CU connection. Marc-Andre Roy (Montreal, Canada) converted a 5-meter soon after but again Chapman would answer with two of their own to go in front 3-2.
This would be the last lead CU would hold as Carlos Heredia Viteri (Commerce, Calif.) would spark a 5-0 run that spanned to the half. Aidan Tol (Tustin, Calif.) added a goal during this spurt along with Zdolsek and Cornelis Kriek (Pretoria, South Africa) would tack on two as well giving WC a 7-3 advantage.
In the third, CU attempted a comeback outscoring the Poets 4-2 to pull within two at 9-7 but over the final eight minutes it was all Whittier holding a slight advantage at 3-2, which gave them the three-goal victory.
In the final period Zdolsek added two and Justin Contreras (Hacienda Heights, Calif.) would finish off the game with a 5-meter penalty.
Murat Ersoz (Istanbul, Turkey) played all 32:00 between the posts and posted 13 saves and two steals in the win. Joining Zdolsek in the scoring category was Kriek (2), Tol, Andre-Roy (2), Contreras, Heredia Viteri.
Whittier wraps up their regular season this Wednesday, November 8 at the Lillian Slade Aquatic Center as they host Cal Lutheran University at 4:00pm for Senior Night.
