Poets make history at Oxy Distance Carnival

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's and Women's Track & Field teams took a small number of athletes over to Eagle Rock for the annual Occidental Distance Carnival Spring Break Classic this past Friday. 

Sophomore Anahy Covarrubias (Los Angeles, Calif.) ran to a lifetime PR of 4:50.54 in the 1500 meters, which puts her 4th all-time in the Whittier College record books. 

Juniors Julissa Tobias (Norwalk, Calif.) and Jessica Iribe (Buena Park, Calif.) ran a 38:20.37 and 38:20.68 in the 10,000 meters, moving them to second and third all-time in the record books.

Sophomore Julian Sandoval (El Monte, Calif.) broke the 15-minute mark in his season-opening 5,000 meter race, running 14.58.42 and freshman Craig Rogers (Whittier, Calif.) ran to a PR of 16.35 in the 110 meter high hurdles.

Whittier takes part in the Westmont Collegiate Classic this Saturday, March 25 hosted by Westmont College.
