Poets battle at SCIAC No. 2 against Occidental and Cal Lutheran

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's Track & Field team came up short during SCIAC No. 2 as they fell to Occidental College (126-37) and Cal Lutheran University (93-52).

Julian Sandoval (El Monte, Calif.) after an incredible fall season in cross-country continues to impress this Spring as he took over the 1500 Meter winning the event with a 3:59.26. 

Freshmen Joshua Minnie (Oceanside, Calif.) and William Howells (Webster Grove, MO) ran well taking 5-6 in the 800 Meter with times of 1:57.98 and 1:58.04, each respectively.  Craig Rogers (Whittier, Calif.) placed 3rd in the 110 Hurdles with a time of 16.49. 

In the pole vault, Miguel Redmond (San Jose, Calif.) had a season best and took 2nd with a 13-05.25.  Andrew Jimenez led the throwers taking 2nd in the Shot Put (44-10.25), 5th in the discus (17-04.50) and 4th in the hammer (112').

Other finishers included KamRon Perry (San Jose, Calif.) in the 1500 Meter taking 7th (4:10.95), Howells in the 5000 Meter at 5th (15:44.06), Somaan Iqbal (Bakersfield, Calif.) in the 400 Hurdles going 1:01.61 for 5th, Rogers in the High Jump with a mark of 5-10.75 (4th), and Tomo Pollard (La Jolla, Calif.) going 11th and 9th in the Long Jump and Triple Jump.       

Whittier returns to the track tomorrow, Saturday, April 8 as they take part in the Pomona Invitational in Claremont, Calif.
