PASADENA, Calif. – The Whittier College Baseball team came back from a 2-0 deficit Friday to win 5-2 over the Beavers of the California Institute of Technology.

With the win the Poets snap their four-game losing skid and improve to 8-23, 4-12 SCIAC.

Caltech got on the scoreboard in the 2nd inning by capitalizing on an error by the first baseman.  They added another in the bottom of the 6th coming on a sacrifice fly by Minjae Kim but their offense would stall as the Purple & Gold would come back to add two in the 7th and three in the 8th for the comeback win.

In the 7th, Michael Angulo (Sunnyvale, Calif.) and Mason Blansett (Lodi, Calif.) went single-double to get the inning started.  Nick Krska (Happy Valley, OR) grounded out that brought in the first tally and Andrew Lamar (Alta Loma, Calif.) tied things up with a sacrifice fly to center.

The very next inning, Jake Raynaud (Los Gatos, Calif.) would put the Poets on top for good going yard for a solo shot to left that moved the score to 3-2.  Thanks to a couple errors by the pitcher and third baseman Whittier managed to bring across another two, which proved enough for the road win.

Dante Mancia (La Mirada, Calif.) picked up his first win on the season after going 7.0 innings giving up one earned run on hits, while striking out four.  Jack Silva (Katy, TX) picked up his third save going two shutout innings.

Raynaud finished the game 2-5 scoring once, while Angulo was 2-3.

Whittier wraps up their three game series with the Beavers, today, Saturday, April 15 with a doubleheader with first pitches slated for 11:00am and 2:00pm.
