WHITTIER, Calif. – It was a tough Friday for the Whittier College Baseball team as they were run ruled 13-3 by Cal Lutheran University at Memorial Field.
The Purple & Gold drop now to 7-21, 3-10 SCIAC, while Cal Lutheran improves to 18-6, 10-5 SCIAC.
The Kingsmen grabbed four runs on five hits in the Top half of the 1st and they didn't look back. Whittier added their first run in the 3rd off the bat of sophomore Brandon Mulrooney (Placentia, Calif.) who hit a solo shot to left that cut the deficit to three.
The Poets added another in the 6th with Will Reader (San Francisco, Calif.) driving in Tanner Marcoe (Northridge, Calif.) who reached on a double to center. In the 7th the Poets would tack on another. Mason Blansett (Lodi, Calif.) led off the inning get hit by a pitch and moved up following a Mulrooney single up the middle. Lamar followed suit and singled up the middle driving in the run but the rally would fall short as Jake Raynaud (Los Gatos, Calif.), Matthew Macey (Oceanside, Calif.) and Hank Burditt (Granada Hills, Calif.) would all get retired ending the threat.
Mulrooney finished the day 3-4 with a run scored and a run batted in. Lamar was also 3-4 with an RBI and Marcoe and Reader each finished 2-3.
The loss went to Dante Mancia (La Mirada, Calif.) who remains winless on the season after he went 4.1 innings giving up nine runs on 13 hits.
Whittier completes the three game series against Cal Lutheran today, Saturday, March 8 in Thousand Oaks, Calif. with game times set for 11:00am and 2:00pm.
