ORANGE, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's Soccer team added a second half goal Wednesday afternoon but it wouldn't be enough to top the Chapman University Panthers as they would fall 4-1 at Wilson Field.
Whittier drops to 1-4, 1-3 SCIAC, while Chapman improves to 4-3-2, 4-1-1 SCIAC.
It was a scoreless game until the 27th minute when Chapman was awarded a throw-in at the Whittier's 10-yard line. The ball was thrown in to Jarod Matteoni who then flicked it to Elliot Braund in the box, who finished it off with a header to the back of the net.
Seven minutes later, Chapman found the back of the net again but this time from Patrick Quinn who finished off a ball in the box, which was bouncing around. He would put CU up 2-0 at the break.
To open up the second half, Braund would find the back of the goal for his second of the game and Niko Arellanes in the 72nd minute would move the score to 4-0 with an unassisted strike.
The lone goal for the Poets came with two minutes to play in the contest from Devin O'Donnell (Anthem, AZ) who finished off a PK following a foul by Chapman in the box.
Nathan Armas (Montclair, Calif.) played all 90:00 and finished with two saves.
Whittier was outshot 19-11 but held the advantage on corner kicks at 8-3.
Whittier returns home this Saturday, September 23 as they host Redlands beginning at 11:00am.
